Back in October 2019, Apple launched the AirPods Pro having a unique design, active noise canceling, improved sound quality, and a price tag of $249. So far, the AirPods Pro has become a signature look these days. Go outside, and you’ll likely find anyone wearing these AirPods walking down the street, in a shopping mall, in a restaurant, or anywhere. Let’s move further with the Apple AirPods Pro review to have a breakdown of all the aspects of getting a pair of AirPods Pro.
In the world of countless earbud models, the AirPods Pro has secured a dominant spot in the market. Its design fits perfectly into the ears, giving you long-time wearing comfort and rich audio quality. The active noise canceling feature is the first-ever introduction to Apple’s family of products. This is the most beneficial feature in most cases as some people might not want to hear background noise. Additionally, there is a transparency mode which is contrary to active noise canceling. It allows you to hear what’s going around too.
Apple AirPods Pro Unboxing Experience
As we open the box, there is an AirPods Pro user manual on the top having written a step-by-step guide on how to pair AirPods Pro with your iPhone. Furthermore, the precautions and return policies are mentioned on it.
There is the masterpiece, the first active noise canceling AirPods ever. The charging case is wrapped in matte finishing white paper. As you open the charging case lid, you’ll have the first glimpse of the premium quality, glossy white AirPods camping inside. When you take them out of the case, the led blinks and shows the battery status of the case.
Additionally, there are two extra pairs of ear tips so you can find a perfect fit for your ears. Mostly, the ideal one fits the most, but if you have dynamically designed ears, you may need to switch them. Moreover, there is a charging cable inside the box as well. This is unexpectedly a USB-C to lightning cable.
Design and Comfort
Putting the Apple AirPods Pro in hand makes a pure and dope look due to its crystal-clear finish. Its design is similar to the original AirPods in many aspects but thanks to its flexible silicone tips that are designed to seal your ears properly so you can experience an ultimate sound and hear what exactly is going on.
The silicon tips have the sole purpose of sealing your ears and leveraging the active noise canceling feature. The AirPods Pro is the first-ever product from Apple to support active noise-canceling technology.
There is an “innovative vent system” aligned to the design that allows a significant amount of sound to pass through to equalize the pressure within your ears. It gives you a controlled amount of sound to avoid discomfort to your ears and body as well. As Apple says, the AirPods Pro is designed to let you feel that you have nothing worn in your ears.
Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency
As I stated earlier, AirPods Pro was Apple’s first in-ear earbuds that featured Active Noise Cancellation technology. But Apple previously used ANC in its on-ear Beats headphones to analyze environmental noise.
There are two microphones dedicated to isolating the background noise. One of these microphones is outward-facing and is designed to detect any external sound. The other microphone, which is the inward-facing microphone listens to sound coming toward the ear.
The first microphone lets the AirPods Pro opposes external sound with anti-noise that cancels out background noise before it reaches the ear. Whereas the second microphone fine-tunes the noise cancellation by detecting any remaining noise. According to Apple, the noise canceling feature continuously adapts the sound signal 200 times per second.
If we talk about AirPods Pro transparency mode, it takes advantage of the vent system in the AirPods Pro to tone down the Active Noise Cancellation so AirPods Pro owners can listen to the traffic, hear train announcements, and more while continuing to listen to music, podcasts, and more.
Apple has put a Transparency mode that lets listen to the surrounding sound while listening to music or whatever.
Battery Life of Apple AirPods Pro
In our in-house accessories testing, we’ve noticed that AirPods Pro has somewhat similar battery timing to the normal AirPods. It offered a continuous playtime of 5hours and 19minutes. Mind it that we kept switching the AirPods on and off for 5 to 10 minutes (while ANC and transparency mode were off) just to align the timeframe with the daily life usage.
This is the average playtime of any earbud offering this kind of premium features and design. If we use the AirPods Pro having the active noise canceling (ANC) on then charging lasts for nearly 4 hours having the volume level ranging between 50 to 80%.
Moreover, the charging case can power the AirPods Pro for 24 hours if you drain them continuously. This means that a fully charged case can charge your AirPods up to almost 5 times depending upon your usage.
One thing that may disappoint you is that the AirPods Pro comes with a Type-C to lightning charging cable. This may not be a drawback for you if you have the latest model of iPhone like the iPhone 11 pro or above. Because the latest versions of the iPhone have this cable in the box, you must have a power source for it.
Knowing the battery status of the AirPods while using them may be daunting for you. Because you can only know the battery status by heading over to the battery widget from the home screen. You can also see the battery status once you’re connecting them to your iPhone. But the problem is, how can we know that a battery is about to die while listening to music unless we manually check it. The answer is no.
Apple AirPods Pro Sound Quality
Let’s talk about the sound quality of AirPods Pro. After analyzing the quality of sound at different levels and genres, we found the sound to be rich and clear with powerful bass. As the design of AirPods Pro seals your ear canal perfectly, you will experience a dense bass while listening to bass-boosted music.
The separation between highs, mids, and lows was almost good. You can hear a clear distinction between the chords. One thing that we noticed was that the sound happened to be coming from inside our heads, which doesn’t give a realistic feel.
There is a custom high dynamic range amplifier inside the AirPods to produce a pure, clear sound. Additionally, there is a custom high-excursion low-distortion speaker driver that optimizes audio quality and blocks background noise.
Adaptive EQ functionality in AirPods Pro tunes the low- and mid-frequencies of music that’s playing to the shape of each person’s ear, for what Apple says is a rich, immersive listening experience.
Can you use AirPods for Gaming?
Yes, you can use Apple AirPods Pro for intermediate-level gaming. This is because they have low latency audio output, directional sound, and active noise cancellation. Although AirPods Pro is designed for Apple products, these can be connected and used with any Android device.
How much is Apple AirPods Pro?
The price of the Apple AirPods Pro is $197. You can get these from Amazon, Bestbuy, Walmart, etc.
